If you want to find out how it tastes, it’s available at Heard Coffee in Pioneer Square. The restaurant has proclaimed on its sign that they have the best Peking duck in Dallas, and they’re not entirely wrong. The Houston-based chain has a menu of Szechuan and Huaiyang cuisines, like bullfrog, spicy lamb spine, and beef tongue sauteed in numbing peppercorns. Before it closed in 2019 due to a fire, one of my favorite places for Peking duck in North Texas was Mr. Wok Asian Bistro in Plano. You had to call a few days in advance to reserve your duck because the cooking process took several days.

The dish is a texture rollercoaster, and it’s hard to stop at just one or two wraps. The skin was a bit too greasy for me, but it still delivered a satisfying crunch. When Bamboo House arrived in Plano early May, the wait to get a taste of the Szechuan restaurant was an hour and a half. Customers gathered for bowls of hand-pulled noodles, plates of spicy peppercorn chicken, and the restaurant’s coveted Peking duck.
